"Livia Corona Benjamin investigates architecture as social performance. Recent objects of study include grain silos built throughout rural Mexico from 1965 to 1999 that were abandoned after the NAFTA agreement. Her photographic works oscillate between representation and abstraction, examine colonial legacies, and reflect on tensions between handmade, serial, and industrial modes production. Livia Corona Benjamin’s formally diverse pictures build on her extensive photo-documentary project about the thousands of conical grain silos in rural Mexico. Her Infinite Rewrite series attempts to embody complex history through appropriation and adaptation. While thousands of graneros remain empty to this day, others have been re-appropriated by their communities. They stand as reminders of a now archaic-seeming socialism once promised so much."
